Is it just the lid that’s from a phonograph, or is the base also hacked off of something?

Holy :cow: !!!!

Now this was some bit of a hacking. It's the lid, and the upper part of the cabinet...plus the bun feet...plus some paint to add insult to injury

for your reference...the unhacked

That is horrible.

I hope that some of the other parts found their way into restoring other machines.

My first reaction was

Quickly followed by

Then finally :?:

Why do this to a lovely cabinet!

If I dont think about the untimely demise of a great machine I actually find the out come of the hacking quite funny!

Certainly someone must write the screenplay now for "Honey I shrunk the Credenza"!! The story of a mad out of control Victrola collector who has collected more phonographs then he has space for, wants that last wonderful machine he has no space for and flips out and carves up a beautiful early two door credenza into the horrible midget orthophonic nightmarish item we now see posted on Craiglist.

I warned the Credenza that a horrible fate was in the wings if it didn't stop playing those Hawaiian records.

It seems that someone went to a lot of effort to destroy something valuable and create something utterly useless. WHY?!?

Perhaps their sock drawer was full, and they need more space to keep their unmetionables?

I wonder when this Credenza was butchered. It would make no sense to destroy a machine that is prized and that can bring in an appreciable sum of money. However, it is possible that the machine was hacked up many years ago, in the 30s or 40s, when wind-up Victrolas were considered old junk, and people were rountinely converting them into liquor cabinets, Christmas tree stands, and other items.

I was at a party a few weeks ago where a gutted Victrola was being used as a stereo cabinet. I felt so sorry for the poor machine!
