I'am going to rebuild my Model C reproducer for my Edison Standard.

When I opened it up, there was a metal ring holding the diaphragm in. How do I get this ring out? It appears to be pressed in pretty tightly and I don't want to damage it.

The ring screws out counterclockwise. A little penetrating oil (like WD-40) will make this easier if necessary. You'll notice two prominent notches in this ring 180 degrees apart. If it doesn't turn easily, cut a nail short enough so it fits into these notches and fills the diameter of the ring. Then grasp the nail CAREFULLY with pliers and gently twist it counterclockwise. That should do it.

There's a tool available for 3 or 4 dollars to remove these compression rings; handy to have!
