I've seen this pic before, but I've never seen it in wideshot with the wicker chair and things on the floor. It looks to be a Chippendale C-250 in oak. I wonder if it was a family heirloom or something James acquired himself? Oh, I just read the caption that this was shot in his uncle's basement in Indiana. Too bad he died so young in that Porsche accident!

yes, maybe. It looks like he is smoking a cigarette and looking over a couple etched-label diamond discs. I wonder what year this is?

Dean's trip home to Indiana to visit the family farm was highly publicized and documented. Photographer Dennis Stock accompanied him and took tons of photos, many of which are available in various James Dean books.

That would explain the Edison, as rural areas seemed to buy Edison.

It looks as if the records were all covered in mold already, by 1955...
