:I got this machine with no case (currently in a case that was a D ) ,it seem to indeed be true that by the time these machines were sold cylinder machines were on the way out it is quieter at 4 min than 2 !! .Not as quiet as an Opera but can not have everything is there anything (other than being careful with it ) I can do to stabilize the pot metal top of the S ?? It plays fine should I risk useing a cygnet ( when i get one ) on it or replace the top cap ?

That is a nice looking F standard. The standard D and standard F are Identical machines except the standard F had the horizontal carriage, a S reproducer, and a black cygnet horn. The D case is fine but all you would have to do is add a cygnet horn adapter. With the S reproducer the play very well. The only way to correct the reproducer is replace the pot metal top with a new brass one. They are available or can be changed if you get it rebuilt. The S reproducer is a expensive reproducer to buy. Tom

I have a Standard F that I am restoring. Your are very lucky to have one. These machines are scarce as the same with the Model S reproducer. These were the last of the Standards with the exception of thee elusive Model G. Congrats on your machine.

Are there any cracks in the top of the S? I have read of using superglue or epoxy to fill those: otherwise, either let well enough alone, or replace the top (if you want to rebuild the reproducer, anyway).
A Cygnet shouldn't cause any problem with it, as the suspension spring and the rubber connector keep the strain off the neck.

There are a couple of the correct Brackets for the cygnet horn crane on eBay now.
Also a couple of Cygnet Horns.
