I was browsing through my collection of 78's, and most of them are Victor Records. Then, Columbia, is second, and other brand labels are third. Banner, Zonophone etc... I gather, that Victor and Columbia pretty much dominated the market, at that time?


My reason, for so many Victor Records, one being I have a Victrola, and two I can always find Victor records.

I think Victor must have very much dominated the the market. My collection has Victor labels outnumbering all the other brands combined by at least 5 to 1, but that may be because I'm prejudiced towards the Victor label anyway. The one time I prefer Columbia to Victor is with the Viva-Tonal recordings. Somehow the sound seems much higher in quality than the Orthophonics (I'm glad my hand didn't wither and fall off as I typed that!!)

I remembered reading the sales stats for Victor records --

All the totals added together comes to 797,437,131 records sold between 1901 and 1941. Funny, but it seems like it should have been a lot more.
