Tell me a bit about this horn...

I've been on ebay again...
I finally got around to buying an Edison phonograph again, got a standard model A, seems pretty good, but don't know much about this horn, it's period I think.
Does anyone know age and make?, also value, as I'm thinking about switching it for a witches hat horn when it comes, if possible,or ideally a large crane mounted horn
Cheers

Looks like a Pathé horn for cylinder machines, but I think in the UK Columbia may have used these spun aluminium horns as well. From a value perspective I think you should be able to trade it for a good Edison horn. Congrats to your new cylinder machine and welcome back to the addiction.

Does your Standard have Edison Bell markings or a tag? If so, this horn would be correct. I have seen pictures of Edison and Columbia machines marketed in England and Europe using this horn.

Years ago I purchased an Edison-Bell marked Standard... Same horn-- Also came with many Sterling and Pathé cylinders-- Nice horn that is right for the European Edison.

Edison Gems sold in England were equipped with that style horn per Frow. I acquired one with a Gem A that I purchased early this year and had to do some research before I was convinced of its originality. Do not trade it without trying it. It gives excellent sound for a small horn - far better than the usual 10 inch cone or 14 inch brass-belled horns provided in the U.S.

I agree that you should hang on to it: a very popular small horn in the UK and Europe, and appropriate for the phonograph in its context.

Cheers guys
The pictures arent the clearest but from what I can see it's not an Edison bell
I'll give this horn a go although I'm not a massive fan of the look, suppose I should keep it, it could have very well left the shop with it in 190?
Ultimately I want to get a 35" ish bell horn and/or a bell witches hat horn, I much prefer them

The big "give away" ie clue, is the hole in the bell of the horn. This was for a Pathé type horn support

Well spotted, that'll be it then!
In that case I think I will look into trading it for another horn
