Any advice on a model M ?

I'm about to start negotiating a price to purchase a Model M talking machine. It's a later one, with a tone arm, and it has the standard black and brass horn. The turntable may not be original (can't tell from the photos), and the soundbox in definitely not original. From what I can tell, it's in decent shape, and the seller claims that it runs. Any ideas on what it could be worth?

Please post a picture so we can look at the overall condition of the machine, advise and make a recommendation.

When you post a reply, lower on the page are the "upload attachments" boxes that allow you to attach pictures from your hard drive. Pictures are displayed from last attached to first attached.

Sorry guys, guess I'm too technologically inept. The photos are in my email, and I don 't know how to get them saved into my pictures. Thanks anyway.

I believe I saw the phonograph you are speaking of. I would say without the exhibition reproducer it would be safe to say $700 would be a good price?

That is the exact machine, and that actually is the price I was thinking of offering. Thanks!

Also looks like a repro crank.

Crank looks exactly the same as on my MS and Vic I ... can't tell about the turntable ... $700 would be a nice price ... more like $1000 with the right soundbox

Victor used the term 'Type' as in 'Type M' to designate it's machines, rather than 'Model', which was the term Edison used. Most collectors today would probably refer to a 'Type M' as a 'Monarch' since that's what the letter stood for. Edison did use the term 'Type' as a sub-category on it's Disc Phonograph line to designate the bulk of them as 'Type SM', meaning 'Spring Motor' (as opposed to an electric motor).
