I have some Edisons, including his version of Una Furtiva Lagrima. I have also several 78 rpms of him singing boleros. Great singer, ad verz popular in the 40s.

Did he not go deaf or lose his voice? I have a distant memory of a Reader's Digest article, 'The Two Lives of José Mojica', which discussed his second career as a friar and mentioned the physical calamity (whatever it was) that had led to his change of life. It must be fifty years since I read this.

Yes, he became deaf but towards the end of his life. He kept on singing and acting even after he took on the priesthood.

He was signed to Edison in part because Edison was tired of dealing with the whims of Italian tenors.
