What is the difference between the 5 sided Laboratory Model Tag and the round siided Laboratory Model tag? Here is a picture of the 5 sided. By the way I'm looking for the 5 sided tag for my C250.

The 5-sided medallions date to a brief period when TAE was an adherent to the teachings of Aleister Crowley.

In Frow's book he states that the verbage on the medallion was later shortened to "Official Laboratory Model". Maybe the shape changed at that time?

I've noticed that C-250s seem to have the 5-sided tag while C-19s have the circular tag. And as WJW points out, the round tag no longer specifies the model so they could be used on a variety of machines.

I have a C-250, SN 12,206 with a 5 sided tag, and another one, SN 40,600 that has a round tag, so they must have made the change before they changed the model designation.

That's interesting, Brad. The longer I do this, it seems there are no hard and fast rules! Thanks for the information.

I recently acquired two C-250's that have the 5 sided laboratory tags. I knew that the tags switched both the shape and wording at some point. However, I wasn't aware that there were variations of wording within one shape of tag. Here they are from my C-250's. (Removed them for cleaning and only then did I notice the difference.)
Strangely, the serial numbers of the machines from which these belong to are pretty close. The one on the left is from serial #12004 and the one on the right is from serial #13676. I used a digital microscope to examine the writing to make sure one wasn't changed over the years by someone. I can assure you these were both done in the factory.

I have looked a bit tonight but didn't come up with anything other than what I already knew. Hopefully someone who has seen one with the "$250" can shine some light on the situation if they know anything.

I was able to come up with this article/ad that was published in several publications in December, 1915. (The month the C-250 was released.)

Does this suggest that the plate with the "$250" wording was very early on and then was changed at somepoint to the "C-250" plate?

Interesting. The Phonograph shown in the advertisement pre-dates the C-250. I wonder if perhaps some of those were badged with the $250 medallion and the remainder used up on the earliest C-250's? If so, I don't recall ever seeing one.
