My problems with Everplay needles

Hello all:
I like the idea of Everplay needles, and have a few of them, used and unused.
My problem is that the two I've used have quit advancing the tungsten wire when the star wheel is turned clockwise as per the instructions. I figure the wire has broken in the shaft, making it useless.
Has anyone done micro-surgery on these to make them functional again?
