Purpose of the limit pin on DD Reproducer.

Wondering here, what the purpose is of the small limit pin that hits the front of the stylus when the needle tilts upward a bit too much in front? I have a number of somewhat warped records and that pin is the cause as far as I can tell for the stylus to be cutting in to the run off area scratching the surface. I notice the Edisonic head does not have this feature and will play though with out damage. I am curious if it just couldn't be filed down to prevent that digging in on the center or a mildly warped record.
Any thought on this here?
