I came across this machine online for sale, but as I'm quite unfamiliar with European HMV machines, I can't tell if it's a fake or not

Aside from the replacement soundbox, it looks genuine to me. The horn fitting is not very good, though.

There is a circular gold transfer-decal on the winding handle side that should read 'Intermediate Monarch'. This ties in with the date given on the underside of 1913 which is the last year these gold discs are found. From what we can see the elbow is correct. Finding the correct soundbox is no problem but the correct morning glory horn is probably not so easy.

What type of reproducers did these machines use? Exhibition?

For this period it would normally be an Exhibition marked 'EXHIBITION MADE IN U.S.A. THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LIMITED'. 'GRAMOPHONE & TYPEWRITER' would be too early and 'HIS MASTER'S VOICE' too late.
