SOLVED!! HELP with Victor Orthophonic Brass Reproducer

Hey all. Someone had done a horrible black paint job on the back flange of my brass orthophonic reproducer. I stripped it off to reveal all brass as shown in photo. Was wondering if there are any tips you can provide for painting to original black. My concern is the paint causing the fine embossing to be hidden. Also, should primer coat be done before the black? I was going to leave it as it is but I would like it to look more original! I also plan on getting the front plate re-plated. Thanks all!

I would just mask off the rest of the reproducer and spray on a thin coat of flat, or semi-gloss, black. As for the gold, it looks very nice as-is, and better than most. I would leave it alone, ESPECIALLY if the reproducer sounds good as-is and does not need rebuilding. Chances of getting an authentic looking gold finish are slim.

I would use Birchwood Casey Super Gun Blue. It is very dark, almost black. Make sure the surface is clean. Apply with a Q tip. Because this is a chemical application, the fine details will not be obliterated. Most Victor Brass reproducer have a dark black/blue finish anyway. The potmetal ones are painted black.

Touched up the reproducer. Now awaiting Birchwood Casey Super Gun Blue shipmenmt.

Birchwood Casey Super Gun Blue failed miserably. I believe it's because it works in steel and not brass. Any other suggestions? Do they sell a paint specifically for brass??

I have used Birchwood Casey for years on brass. The brass needs to be super clean. Any bit of dirt or crud will not make it work.
