The Talking Machine Forum — For All Antique Phonographs & Recordings

Oceangoer recently found a project 8-35x for me. This machine came to me right as I was finishing another project and cleaning out space in my garage. I thought I would offer a working "as found" 8-35X to anyone wishing to restore it. If you are good with restoring finishes, this will be an easy project for you. Very little veneer needs repair, and mechanically the machine is sound. The grill cloth is there, as are most of the original albums. The albums are not in good shape, but I bought the reproduction spines sold by a forum member to breathe new life into them if you wish.

Included is the working machine, albums, and a good (but not rebuilt) bronze pot metal orthophonic reproducer. The motor runs quietly and without issues, and the sound with a rebuilt reproducer is amazing.

I will eventually get around to the work myself, but currently would rather hand it off to someone who wants one. Once the work is done by me, the price will go up. I'll rebuild the reproducer, restore the finish, and rework all the albums.

This looks like an awesome deal! this is what replaced the Credenza in the Victrola line up. This has the large metal re-entrant horn with fabulous sound! I know, I have two Orthophonic 8-9's with the same horn.

Imagine how good it would look with new spines on the record storage books!

This machine can definitely get to Union this year. A forum member has generously offered to get it there, as I have other family commitments this year and cannot go.

In my opinion, this is the best sounding Orthophonic ever built.....not exactly sure why....even with a pot-metal reproducer you get terrific audio
