I'm going to an estate sale tomorrow. How much should I pay for this victor V in its condition? How much value does a speartip horn add?
Thanks
Martin

I don't know on price, but the horn elbow seems bent to me. (The horn looks screwed in but something may not be on right that I don't notice.)
Finding an exhibition reproducer wont be hard.

I photo only is not enough to get a real appraisal. The horn look tired. The elbow is probably squished but is probably repairable. The reproducer looks like an off brand and it should be an Exhibition but that's not a big deal. The cabinet color looks blotchy light in some spots and extra dark in another. Does it need to be refinished? I don't know. Does the motor work or need repair. How is the paint and striping on the back bracket? Does the needle come close to the spindle indicating a correct back bracket?
You are looking at a very worthy project Victor V. If I saw that in a garage sale I would buy at $500 and think about it up towards $800. My opinion might change if I had a chance to really examine it closely. I hope this helps you and I hope you are able to make the purchase.

This is the type of project I've been looking for for quite a while. Hope its reasonably priced. I'm hoping a good cleaning a polishing of the horn would be enough to avoid having to repaint it.
Thanks

Good luck, and Hopefully no rude people will cut in front of you this time.

Quite funny that someone remembers that post. We will try to arrive early, and hope nobody is willing to break our backs to get to it first.

I'm getting their earlier than cutting in front of you! Thanks for alerting me.
Good luck and I hope to see pics of it as soon as you bring it home.

I wouldn't repaint or refinish this Victor. Just a good cleaning and polish. Good Luck and post more pictures when you get it home.

I agree the elbow looks warped, like it might have been dropped at one time or it could have just warped under the weight of the horn.
Is this at an auction or an estate sale? If it's a sale, who knows how they might try to price it. I've seen sales where prices were good or at least reasonable. If an auction, it could go cheap if there are no other phono collectors there. I once picked up a Victor III at an auction for $250 because the only people there were dealers and flippers.

No luck. They posted the wrong time AND address

. These estate sales are a real pain. Someone got it for 300.
