I have a 1912 VV-XVI that i am working on and it has a type M 3 spring motor like the kind used in the VTLA, does anyone know if this is standard for the 1912? i have heard that Victrola sometimes used older parts for their machines to use up the supply.
the motor was a little more difficult to dis-assemble and can have issues with the bull gear stripping if not aligned when re-assembling. Does anyone know where to get a replacement Bull Gear? this is the gear riveted to the barrel.

Your "L" door would use the same motor as a later VTLA or the typical Victor V. When I started collecting in the seventies my mentor collector friends all suggested that the only use for a Victrola was for donating parts.

Sad but true. So many of those early and unique Victrolas did not survive the first generation of collectors. The VV-XVI that followed the "L" door has a similar motor but is not interchangeable. (Sorry but my
Data book is not at my fingertips.

Here is the motor in the 1912 XVI, the actual manufacture date is 1911 as hand written inside the cabinet.

I really prefer the newer generation motors, this one has been tough to overhaul. Took a while to figure out how to get the drum shaft out. In case anyone needs to know, the front gear pulls off exposing a pin, after tapping the pin out, it slides out.

I think board member Wyatt "micamonster" Marcus had some of these reproduced several years ago. - bill

That type M 3 spring was the toughest rebuild to date. The springs were slipping in the arbor and after adjusting them over and over finally got them to catch and wind. My mistake was when i took the springs out i grabbed them in the center with pliers and that made them out of round. If i run across another like that i will know better.
Also, these motors are noisy compared to the newer generation.
