Darn! Outbid Again!
No big deal. It was a recording by Amelita Galli-Curci of the "Laughing Song" from Auber's opera "Manon". I really wanted it, so I bid about 10 times what I was willing to pay, thinking no one is going to bid that high. But someone did! The price is now up to $28.00, and at that amount they're welcome to it (though I would've liked to win it
).

I know the feeling! Some unprincipled thief did the same thing to me last year! But they come around again, sooner or later.

While that is very frustrating, the price your seeing might have been way worse a while back.. I am always amazed at the prices some of these records fetch. Not uncommon for them to hit the 100.00 to 300.00 range if two people really go nuts..

Yes, the temptation was there to pick up the gauntlet and start a bidding war, but I remembered that my original motive in picking such a maximum bid was so that I wouldn't mind if I did get outbid. Now, I do wish that I'd won the record, but there's no way I'm paying anywhere near $30 for it. I just can't believe someone was willing to do it.larryh wrote:While that is very frustrating, the price your seeing might have been way worse a while back.. Tell me about it. I bid $50 on a Irving Aaronson recording "Let's Misbehave" but was outbid with 3 seconds left.

Geesh! And I thought I'd been raked over the coals! Just the thought that I'd payed $50.00, or $202.50, for a record would keep me from enjoying it. I'd be kicking myself every time I played it.
