Got a deal on a VV 100. I was assuming this is mahogany but they made some of these in walnut too.
Can anyone tell what kind of wood this is? Thanks!

This is one of Victor's basic floor models. It's been veneered with mahogany, and the curved corner parts are some hardwood that can be stained to look like mahogany, probably birch, but I'm not sure.

Most definitely Mahogany. You see a lot of people on Ebay calling it Cherry, or occasionally Oak (!) I guess real mahogany furniture in most homes is a thing of the past.

Also agree....definitely mahogany.

Usually old mahogany turns dark and "alligators" so this minty condition
one had me guessing. It seems to be one of those machines that never ended
up in a hot or cold garage, damp basement, etc.

Years ago I helped move a large collection of uprights. I was amazed at the fact that a Victrola was heavier than any other brand with the same size cabinet. Some time later I found out why. The core wood of any Victrola was oak. If you take a look at the edge of a mahogany veneered Victrola door, you'll see mahogany colored oak. Victor didn't cut many corners.

Yeah, I definitely noticed the weight when I moved it upstairs today! It weighs probably
twice as much as my similar sized Silvertone. I used to move refrigerators and furniture for a
living so I am used to heavy stuff, but this one I could not lift for more than a few
seconds at a time. I had to "walk" it up the stairs one step at at a time. lol. Made it in
one piece though, so its all good.

I've been having the same 'walnut or mahogany' questions in here about my Credenza, and after reading responses and seeing some posted pic examples, I fully concur that I think this is mahogany and not walnut. The woodgrain doesn't have lots of super-distinct dark lines or 'rings'; instead it has broad bands of darker/lighter areas that blend into each other.

I am happy with the machine but it would have been nice to have
one in walnut for a change. In time perhaps I will stumble upon one...
