Someone did a creative "upgrade" on a lidless Victrola. It looks like they put some effort into it. The hinge screws are slotted, so I don't think that it was a recent alteration. Maybe it was an aftermarket upgrade kit? I like it, but I won't be buying it.

It’s funny that you say that. Most lidded tabletop machines have always reminded me of a casket.

That lid looks really too nice for homemade, but I don't know.

Think it came from The Winchester Mansion----just needed a few more additions

I think this was done a long time ago by either a skilled woodworker or a cabinet maker. To me, this is a very special piece, well worth the price. In one of the Compendium books, I remember seeing an after market kit to put a lid on a VV VI. George, can you post the picture and which volume this was in?

Not a VV-VI, but a similar machine, from A World of Antique Phonographs:

Thanks for posting. Was there a similar attachment for a VV VI?

You're welcome, Harvey. If we pictured a VV-VI similarly modified, I don't remember it...but with over 3750 photos in the 8 books, it's challenging to remember everything!
