I know the comment I'm about to make is neither original nor interesting, but I'm going to make it anyway. WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING!??! C'mon, in this day and age, especially for someone with internet access, there's no excuse for being unaware of some item's probable worth.

There has been a lot of this going on lately. Ever notice the amount of VV-X machines priced at $1,200 firm? There has been a Credenza on eBay for the past 6 months priced at $1,995. After 6 months you would think the seller would get the picture.

Gosh I didn't know what a deal I got a couple years ago when I purchased this set for a dollar an album at a thrift store here. Maybe I can go on a long vacation with the profits, you think?

But you're missing the point: it's RARE! It says so right in the description. So obviously it's worth it.

Just for fun I did a search to see how many auctions use the word 'rare' in the title or description. Eight million listings turned up... If you want to see some real insanity, sort the list by "price: highest first" and see some of the nonsense that people value in the millions of dollars.

The ad doesn't say they're rare. It says they're extremely rare! He also justifies his asking price by saying that he's seen this set on ebay going for $950,000 per volume, and we all know how realistic ebay sellers always are, so using ebay for a reference is completely justifiable.

I once searched ebay for a clock from Westclox called "Tiny Tim". It was a very small desk clock manufactured in the late '20's. There were eight matches. All of them described the item as "rare".
