Is there a preferred or proper horn crane for a Columbia BK Phonograph? I am looking to use a 30-32 inch horn on a machine. I like the TTco cranes which Justin Schaub has reproduced, but the curvature at the base might not mate up with the trim on the machine...Ideas?

Joe, I know what you mean. On the bottom of the crane, there is a flat head screw to adjust it. That should work. If the opening is still too big, cut a short piece of basswood, and place in crane bottom. Use the adjusting thumb screw until tight. Bass wood will conform to the cabinet base without damage. Don't use balsa wood, it's too soft. Bass wood can be purchased at any good hobby shop, or art store.

Hopefully your original diaphragm is still good on the BK. The one I had was, but I tried a copper Model C Edison diaphragm from Ron Sitko. While it was great quality and would have done a good job in a Model C or H reproducer it sounded horrible on the Lyric.

So back to mica I went, with a little modification of a celluloid center from an old Amberola diaphragm and a shorter link.

Can't imagine how nice a BK would sound with a 32" horn!
