A little on the high end price wise, but not outside of reality. Does the motor wind and run well? Are the cabinet sides in nice condition? (Not shown in your photos)

this is what he says in his ad "Beautiful Victor Victrola that has been cleaned and relubricated. This Victrola has wonderful sound, and doesn’t thump."

Agree with a bit on the high side. But, the oak models are much more desirable than the mahogany ones.
Maybe make an offer?

If I'm not mistaken, every VV-VIII is oak; I've certainly never seen a mahogany example -- not even a photo of one.

"Wonderful Sound" is subjective, so you also might want to verify that the "sound box" or reproducer has been completely overhauled with new diaphragm gaskets, and a back flange. If not, have him take $40-$50 off the price, since it will have to be done unless you want to ruin records.

That is correct. Oak only on this model.

That's a nice looking VIII and it seems to play fine. If you're particularly looking for an VIII, this is a decent example.
The possible downside of the VIII is that it's the smallest of the table top Victor machines with a lid. It's fine for a bedroom and will serve you well.
If you're looking for this type of machine, I would probably steer you to a IX, which is a big bigger, and because it's more common, it's also usually cheaper. You can probably find a decent IX on Craigslist for $200 or less. You might also consider the X and XI models which include record storage. These tend to be around $150 on Craigslist.

The guy guy said $200. My wife is happy with the size, she just wants it for her music room. She is a piano teacher
and wants to just have one.
