Why would he be a nut case? His price does not seem out of line for a really nice machine, great horn, and a fancy cabinet.

I'd have to agree with Jerry. I've not seen any pictures but the price seems in the ballpark to me. :monkey:

Pete:I am thinking of selling the entire Victor VI --not just the horn....
oldtvsandtoys:well then how much do you want for it?
Pete: 5800
oldtvsandtoys: Wow I think thats a little high
pete:u are obviously wayyyyyy out of your league------------I love u low end collectors---better stick with buying an edison standard

And this is why I said what I did. Sorry to upset anyone.
$5800 WAS a high price.

in 1978.

It does sound in the ballpark these days, perhaps at the high-end of the market, but in the ballpark.

If the cabinet is a good one and the machine and horn are in fine original condition $5800 could be an excellent value indeed.

It all depends entirely on the condition of this particular outfit.

I inquired about the cabinet and he seemed very nice and honest with his reply and not too far off on price. I believe when he meant that he would separate, maybe he meant the machine and horn as a unit from the cabinet itself.

Just to clarify for all---I will not separate the horn from the machine---and, I am am sure that most of you would agree with me on that decision----However, I am more than happy to sell the cabinet separately---I am a long time collector, more than 30 yrs--- and know this is on the high end of the scale---however it is a beautiful piece. Considering that a reproduction horn alone would cost anywhere from 700-1000 dollars---Don Gfell or Bill White repros) I thought this was a reasonable staring point.

The reason I reacted with my response to the gentleman who claims "I may be a nut case" is as follows---when I graciously responded to him with my price---he responded with asking me "what kind of drugs was I doing". He "of coarse" failed to relay that comment to the rest of you (convenient selective memory)

I offered the machine to this forum in the hopes that another collector may have the interest in enjoying a machine that we have owned and cherished for years. I will not let the "one" bad apple in this bunch rain on my parade. I hope the rest of you folks enjoy the hobby as we have for years ....Have a great day!!!
