This is another machine that belonged to my deceased father. I think it's a VV-35... 0r is it a VV-50? The case is wood but the bottom still has the textured fabric. I assume he removed most of it and refinished the wood. I've tried to get the turn table off but I can't figure out how to do it. Is there a clip or something I'm not seeing?

Not sure why my pictures always end up sideways. They are up right on my laptop but when I post them they're sideways.

Yours is a VV-35, and the Victor Victrola Page says that these had cloth covering over wood. If the turntable spindle is like the VV-50 it would screw off counter-clockwise to remove the turntable, though that's just a guess.

There is a clip, and you are seeing it. The black looking clip that goes around the spindle needs to be pushed off the spindle in order for the turn table to come off. The clip will slide sideways but will need a small amount of force to do so.

I just got it back out to fiddle with today... and yes! I finally got it off. It took me awhile to figure out. I was trying to pull the clip up but you just pull it back. Thanks for the help!

As I look closely at the box I see it has some texture on the bottom. Its painted black, no fabric covering just the wrinkly, bumpy texture of the faux leather. But the top and sides look like a smooth mahogany. Do you think this was the wood under the fabric or is it more likely my Dad put a veneer over the wood. I know of another radio he veneered, but he did a terrible job.

I took the tone arm off because I plan to pack this up for shipping. There are three little screws that connect it to the base where it swivels. When I pulled the arm off 5 or 6 tiny ball bearings fell into the metal horn. They are the size of bbs. Is this normal? Did I damage it?

Those are the tone arm bearings; they'll have to be put back in when the arm is reassembled.

When shipping, it's usually enough to remove the reproducer and tie down the tone arm.
