Unusual Edison blanks

I have not seen this style of Edison blank cylinder box before. There is a 1917 patent date so that's well into the Amberola era. I didn't think Edison was promoting home recording that late. :?: But this is later than my main focus so I may simply be out of the loop. The boxes are felt-lined, with black wax blanks.

These were probably used with the hard to find 4 minute recorder. If you have or can find or have a 4 minute recorder, you'd have yourself a nice set (not to record with of course ;))

Are there holes in the bottom of the boxes?

If so, I’ve seen them before, and was told that they are shortie Ediphone cylinders.

4m blanks are different, and come in their own specific boxes.

Perhaps these were not so much for home recording as for ICS usage? Very cool, nonetheless!

It's simply a pleasure to look at the photo. Those cylinders look like they were placed new in the carton last week. Jerry B.

I should point out that they are not mine. Someone I know found them, new-old-stock, still packed in the original box, with 24 mint cylinders and boxes. They aren't for sale (more's the pity).

Very Cool Rene'

I have several original recording blanks and have always wondered about dating them. Here's a photo of two different box designs that I have, plus four different and original (never shaven) blanks of different colors. The one to the far right has writing on top. So I always assumed that it was later and probably for the 4-minute recording client.

PS...The box to the left has the label pasted over a gold molded record box.

Yes, The First picture in the thread are the 4-Minute Edison Blanks used for the short lived 4-Minute Recorder...Would think that you could use them for the 2-minute recorders as well.

Very hard to find. Nice find!

Thanks for the pics!
