Got a bunch of transcription records just sitting there begging to be played, but I do not own anything capable of playing them. So, I would like to purchase something that sounds decent to play these old records. Preferably $100 or less please.

Thanks,

Travis

But the new ones, at least, won't be less than $100. https://www.esotericsound.com/turntableB.htm

I'm still looking for something to play my 16 inch records on. I have $140 to spend on one.

Thanks.

Hi. I use a Rheem Califone to play my 16" transcription records. These phonographs were basically used for schoolrooms and for square dance calling (because the mixes well with the record while calling dances). My model is the Director II Model 15V which is monaural and uses tubes (valves) rather than transistors but there are later models that are transistor powered and stereo. It has a cartridge that can flip from 78 to LP stylus which was handy because I had both 78 and LP 16" records. These are bulky stand-alone machines but were basically built for this purpose. Mine will play 16" but not 16 ¼" so I had a couple records that it could not play. I pull it out of the closet and use it then put it away so it can be unhandy compared to the turntable system. There are several models of Califone machines on Ebay and prices are all over the place. But you need to research the model and make sure it plays larger disks. I had the seller measure from the spindle to the base of the tonearm to make sure it was at least 8". Good luck.
