Automatic Brake Calibration Help

Well, I picked up the Granada, but cannot get the auto-brake to function properly. I can stick a record on it, start the turntable, and it'll stop it just before halfway everytime. Seems as it hits the 4th or 5th tooth, it snaps the brake shut every time. The piece where the stop/start tab and the lever that holds it in place is a bit worn, but would that cause this problem?

Seems a shame to only be able to play records ½ way through. :(

The soundbox is BAD. Nickel plating is worn away in a lot of spots, and it has a nice big crack in it. But it does sound surprisingly good.

Sometimes a squirt of liquid wrench or wd40 to the brake mech. will do the trick.

I tried that already, unfortunately. A drop or two of 3-N-1 to all moving parts on the motorboard helped it a lot, but it still hangs up.

Maybe this previous post of mine will help:

That's most likely what mine needs done to it (the last posting) although I don't know how to bend it properly. I can't see the metal "giving" enough for me to bend it back slightly.

It's best to remove the brake assembly from the motorboard, and then bend down the arm "A" with a needle-nose pliers until the end is snug against the lower plate. You'll easily be able to set and trip the mechanism and ensure the best adjustment before installing back onto the motorboard. Hope this helps!
