(SOLD) This is an original stock certificate from the Old Dominion Phonograph Company in Virginia. They were a licensee of the North American Phonograph Company and Jesse Lippincott, which is noted on the certificate itself. This is an issued certificate, not just a blank, and is signed, sealed and dated Feb. 3, 1890. It was never canceled so the original owner ultimately lost his $50 investment.

The certificate is in superb condition, fitted into an archival sleeve for protection and nicely framed.

$175 plus shipping at cost (~$15 or so I would think). Paypal okay.

It's interesting that most of the stock certificate that I've seen for Old Dominion were issued to Frank Chew..

Perhaps not surprising -- he evidently bought shares on several occasions and carefully filed away the certificates, which managed to survive to the present and were dispersed once the hoard was found in recent years. (There were two available when I bought mine.) Most of the issued certificates were likely thrown out once the business collapsed.

That name has peaked my interest... There is a different person with that same last name that appears in my extensive research for Granby (based in Hampton Roads, VA). I believe he was shortly associated with the company as a sales rep. This is 30 years later though, 1920's period. Again, just enough to peak my interest.... :?: I might have to do a little digging later and see if there is a family connection.

Sorry guys, I had to take my collector hat off and put my historian hat on for this one
