It's been bugging me ever since I bought the machine. They look like two acorns, and fit on each side of the needle cup
holder. They seem to serve no purpose, and I just wonder what they are, and why they are part of the machine.

It's a plug that goes in one of two holes on the back of your machine.I hope one still has it's plug.

I only have the one, but....it appears to be too big to fit in there.

Stupid question...but why are there holes in the back of the machine?
Was it something to do with seccuring the machine in the packing crate?

It was for attaching to the packing crate. If you can get a copy of a manual for the machine it will make reference to it.

I've always wondered what the two little holes were for in the needle holder. It's only found on a select few machines.

Well,since I have a 17 myself.I guess I should have some idea .
