Here is my mechanically restored Edison B-60 playing a Don Wilson repro of 51820 Up and At 'Em by the Golden Gate orchestra.

Pretty hot music!
That looks like an aftermarket turntable brake at the rear of the turntable. Interesting!

I'm always delighted to hear the Golden Gate Orchestra. They recorded quite a catalogue of great jazz for Edison records. I like the idea of a table top Edison. The cabinet design is quite nice. My machine is too heavy to carry by myself.

Yes that is an after market semi-auto stop and brake. To use it you just release the Edison brake which is no longer needed. I've never seen one of these before. Maybe it was just the thing to sell a reluctant buyer back in the day who did not want to have to get up and go shut the machine off. Besides Edison, did any other phonograph manufacturer make an Arts and Crafts style phonograph? The only one I can think of is the Columbia oak Regent of 1913.

Nice sounding B-80, Marc! Could you post a few good photos of the brake mechanism, please? I'd love to learn more about it.
Thanks,
Fran

Only for curiosity... I've never had an Edison machine...
A belt driven turntable? Is that a common feature of Edison DD machines, or is it exclusive of this model, and maybe others? Do you have photos of that mechanism?

The A/B/C-60 and A/B-80 were the only Edison Disc Phonographs to have belt-driven turntables. Here's a photo of a B-80 mechanism:

Thanks for the photo. Very interesting. The belt seems to be made of towel cloth with a sewed backing cloth for reinforcing, or made of two different kinds of leather...

Here is a poor pic of the after market shut off mechanism. I'll try to get a better pic if you want. marc.
