It's pictured on page 101 of "The Perfect Portable" by Dave Cooper.

I'm not sure if its the 118 (1936-1941) or not, since the illustrations are not specifically identified, but the author does mention the fact that the case opened length-ways. Also not sure if it's worth the asking price, since it looks like it was painted over. Perhaps a military model? (Steve? Shane?)

It looks like one of "colonial" models from India to me. I've never seen one turn up out here, so I dont about price, but I think I read recently a teak 102 sold for just over £600, so it may well be worth the asking price even if it requires refinishing??

Thanks Shane, I note that Steve referred to this model on another forum, and I gather it's relatively rare. From a sonic standpoint, it should be pretty powerful, since it has a larger horn than the HMV 102.

I don't know if the guys from the UK board ever look in on this site, but some of them may find it of interest.

Yes it is INCREDIBLY RARE!

It is a teak 118 made in Calcutta as stated by Ortho_Fan. I've never seen one before although i have the 114 model which is the same identical machine but with the lid hinged in the 'normal' way ie. on the shortest side.

Price? A conservative estimate would be £2500 or $4000 in its current currency!

BTW it hasn't been repainted but it's simply very dirty!!!!!

The case has ebonised bandings which appear to have faded and blended well with the dark and dirty cabinet polish.

Many thanks. Had no idea that it was that rare. I'd go for it but I don't have 500 cents to spare right now. Hopefully, whomever gets it won't turn it in to a tackle-box.

BTW, I looked again at DC's book and he does, indeed, identify the illustrations--in the lower right hand corner. I must have had my thumb over it, holding the book, while looking at the page.

Based on some guesstimates I made for the package size, the range seems to be $150-$350, depending on the service selected.

Upon closer examination, the case appears to have been painted with brown paint.

did you get to check it out in person to make that determination? just curious, because the seller seems confident enough that the cabinet retains its original finish and has never been painted.
