This Columbia BC (20th Century) came into the shop today with a good supply of 6" cylinders. Seems to work just fine.
Never seen one before.

The Higham Amplifier is a nice thing about these machines. Are those 6" brown wax records in the case?

(It's a Columbia, by the bye, but seeing Edison build one like this would be interesting to say the least.)

Just the case of records is a great find. Are they free of mold?

How does the machine play? Most of the time, the Higham reproducer needs a good rebuild. The problem is the amber wheel is either broken or worn out. The amber wheel is what increases the loud volume on these.

The 6" cylinders are in good condition, though one is cracked.

Harvey, What is the amber wheel?

The amber wheel spins behind the diaphragm and there is a vulcanized rubber boot that rubs against it. Usually the rubber boot is broken. When all the parts are working the volume is tremendous.

Say Cliff, could you please change the title to this thread? It's like fingernails on a chalkboard (to me anyway).

Thanks!
