I am offering 10 original Columbia '20th Century' cylinder records c.1905-1908. They are 6" long and will play up to 3 ½ minutes on specially built Columbia phonographs. Utilizing the same technology as the standard 2 minute cylinder records, these being an extra 2" longer provided the longer play capability and the specially built Columbia phonographs had a longer mandrel to accommodate the extra length.

This innovation was a big deal in 1905 when all 'regular' cylinder players only played 2 minute 4" cylinders, but when Edison introduced a 4 minute recording on a 'regular' sized 4" cylinder record, these were all but forgotten. After 1908, sales of these cylinders really took a hit. No new issues were released and the remaining inventory was eventually relegated to the scrap pile. It is estimated that about 189 titles were issued in this format.

There are 10 cylinders and you can take your pick for $125 each.

All have correct cylinder cases and most also have the correct lids.
