I came across this phonograph for sale, but this is a completely unknown phonograph and company for me.
I decided to upload some photos, if anyone can shed some light on this one. I don't have more photos than the one I upload now,
at least not at the time of writing this. Open case, and where is the horn?
At first I thought maybe this was a modern style 78 rpm player, but when looking at the soundbox, it looks old enough,....

I like it. It's interesting. Does everything move freely and work as it should? It's possible to build a nice collection if all you bought was quirky little machines of various shapes and sizes with innovative cabinets.

Yes, according to the seller everything is working on this phonograph.
I also find it interesting, and different. The seller wants $ 100 for it...

If you like it, buy it, or at least make an offer. I think it's calling your name.

A machine working on the Reflex principle. The arm is a replacement, but even with that it is an interesting machine. Worth $100? - that is debatable, but these can't be very common.

I saw a machine like this at the Union Show many years ago. I don't know if it was the same manufacturer or not. It was definitely the same principle. Buy it if you like it for your collection. It isn't a machine to buy in hopes of reselling at a big profit.

I think I remember seeing one like it in one of the phonograph books, but at the moment all my books are packed away.

What is the thought process here? Haggle to get 5 or 10 off? About $100 is pretty much the lowest price for any complete and working machine in good condition. Offer $50 and see what happens ?

My "thought process" is--that's a nice tone arm on there now, even if it's not original, and I'd never heard of an Orpheus machine before. It's kind of neat in a modern-art sort of way.

Is it possible to see what tonearm was original to this machine, when looking at the base of the tonearm, or other cluses given to what tonearm it was equipped with from the factory? I have looked at the other two Orpheus models we have access to on photos from this thread, and the 3 models actually have all different tonearms. I am uploading the other 2 tonearm photos here to easier see the difference.
And yes, it is an interesting machine also to me, and here I am not thinking about commercial value, but that is a scarce and different machine with an interesting look.

The tonearm on that second one, the rougher example, looks like it's been kludged out of 2 separate arms. There is a little protuberance on one of them where it would go into the tonearm bracket on a floor model.

At least so it appears.
