I thought some may appreciate a little information concerning Vernon Dalhart.

Vernon Dalhart is one of my favorites. I have probably 30+ of his records, my favorite being his version of "Oh Dem Golden Slippers" with Carson Robison.

I only have a few mostly on Edison and Victor. My favorite one is probably The Wreck of Number Nine. I have that one on an Edison Disc. I do enjoy his work.

One of his records came with my Edisonic Schubert, and although the style of music isn't really my "thing," it clearly showed why he was such a successful recording artist: good, strong voice and a real sense of how to sell a song.

I do have one record of him in music more along my usual line. As copied (and lightly edited) from my catalogue:

Lecocq: La Fille de Madame Angot -- We Strongly Now Will Try Together. In English. Gladys Rice, Vernon Dalhart; or. Edison Diamond Disc 80519-R

I bought that all the way back in 2001 from none other than David Canfield, better known as an LP dealer.

The one I mentioned came with my C-150. The others are also of the "hillbilly" type.

Vernon Dalhart has one side/title that I quite like, I just can't remember what it is right now.

The more you have, the less you know you have.

Its interesting that before he was well known as a country type singer he did opera on Edison. I have him doing an Aria from Fra diavolo by Auber. Probably from a period when people wanted to hear the song so they could understand it?

I wouldn't mind hearing that.

I would have 30 + of his records too. They are so common that if you buy pop music on 78 rpm (Dalhart's pseudo-hillbilly stuff included) of that era they can just practically fall in your lap.
