Do any of the forum members have any knowledge of the history or background of the New Jersey Phonograph Company?? It appears that they basically were fabricators of cylinder from what I see.

I just picked up this certificate dated 1889.

Nice certificate, Gary!

The New Jersey Phonograph Company was one of the original subcompanies of the North American Phonograph Company. It leased, and later sold, Edison Phonographs and Graphophones (at first termed "Phonograph-Graphophones") during the formative years of the industry. As you noted, New Jersey was also a producer of cylinder records, and it was one of the major producers of the time. The New Jersey Company was reorganized as the United States Phonograph Company in 1893 - - probably in anticipation of North American's bankruptcy in August 1894.

Congratulations - -

George P.

Wow, $2,500.00 was a LOT of money in 1889.

Nice certificate!

Best,
