My Victor Record Binders came in today, and I was curious......is there a way to "preserve" the leather on the pulls so they can survive use? A few of them don't have the pulls, and one of them looks a bit shaky. Would leather conditioner help them any? What have you guys done?

The sewing thread is just too old now. Don't use the pulls.

Well, they don't rip out of the book, but the leather piece that loops around the pull rips in the center. It's the leather itself that trips, not the stitching that holds it to the book. (At least so far.)


Although I do appreciate the info. Was it stitched, or glued? I don't recall seeing any stitching on it.

I avoid using them. I think they look better on the binder unused, then on my finger looking back at me as to say "Really?"

I had a couple break on my Brunswick albums, so I just replaced the leather strip on all of them.
I was able to pull the old bits of leather from under the binding with a pair of tweezers, then I just cut new leather strips in the right colour & length, then glued them back in, using tweezers to feed the leather under the binding. They're as good as new now.

Where did you locate the proper leather for such a project?

Mine came from a great-aunt who died about 20 yrs ago. She had a big trunk full of leather-work tools & leather from her teaching days in the 20s & 30s.
I've never seen a Victor album to know what type they used, but you should get something close at a book binders Id imagine.
