Hi everyone, I’m new here, as I have just purchased my first Edison diamond disc machine. I’m looking for a NOS Edison new standard reproducer. Please correct me if I’m wrong but these were referred to as Edisonic? Gold plated would be preferred as my machine has gold equipment.
Best regards,
Joshua

The New Standard and Edisonic are essentially the same thing. They are very similar to the regular Diamond Disc reproducer, but with extra weight and a spring load to help control the stylus. There are two different weights on these. One is fully round on the sides, the other is squared off.
The Edisonic was designed for the louder, more modulated electric recordings. Most of us use ours somewhat sparingly because the extra weight may result in increased record and stylus wear. If this is your first machine, I would recommend getting a regular reproducer with a good stylus. You can always look around for an Edisonic later.
Having sad that, there are NOS reproducers out there, including at least one that was offered here a while back. I don't recall if it sold or not.
Good luck with your hunt!

You might want to consider just getting your existing standard reproducer rebuilt. It will sound fantastic if you have Steve Medved or Wyatt Marcus do the rebuild.

I would have to agree with the above. A properly rebuilt standard DD reproducer sounds fantastic and to my relatively good ears sounds about as loud as a rebuilt Edisonic. Mine is more or less decorative even though it's also rebuilt, and again, I really can't hear any difference.

Same here. I've got Edisonics, Dance and of course the tried and true Standard, all properly rebuilt. Also, countering the minimal improvement in sound quality, there's the the fact of dramatically more weight on the record and less tolerance on the Edisonic and Dance, especially the Dance, for the limit pin to move within the limit loop. Off center pressings are more prone to skip and worse yet, the limit pin is more likely to bump against the shell of the reproducer, gouging the record and damaging the stylus.
They are in interesting part of the story and certainly collectible but for routine use the standard, properly rebuilt is just fantastic too.
