Expensively finished cabinet, wooden tonearm, winding handle at the rear. I think it has something of the Vesper about it, but over to you.

It is the first time I see a cabinet with a crank in the rear! Very odd, the console would have to be placed far enough from the wall to allow the listener to sneak in and wind it up.

If this is an original, I would be surprised! The area surrounding the central part looks very rough, and there appears to be a metal bracket at the bottom of the cabinet on the left hand side, probably securing the central unit to the rest of the cabinet. That alone would cause problems if records were stored there. It could be that someone had the idea of fitting the turntable unit into a different cabinet, but found that the crank handle wouldn't reach the motor from the side, so in desperation made a hole in the back. What's the purpose of the vertical strip of wood running down the left hand side, covered in the same material as the turntable?

An additional lid under the lid doesn't make much sense

It's a bit of a Heath Robinson affair methinks. Not worth 400 quid.
