winding pawl not working

After I crank the motor, the crank will spin backwards. I can't figure out why the pawl which should prevent this, is not working. I looked on the repair manual but cannot see a photo of the pawl on my machine. I have a single spring motor on an Edison DD s-19.
Can someone post a photo of what the pawl should look like to see if mine is broken? Is there a spring which should apply pressure on the pawl?
Thanks

Yes, there is a spring on the ratchet. If you remove the winding assembly you will see that yours is broken. It can often be pulled out a bit and made to work again, but I usually replace them. I just did that today.

The same thing happened to me on a C250 machine
I picked up a few years ago.

That time, after disassembling the machine, it became
apparent that the winding pawl had somehow gotten
badly bent out of shape.

It got removed, then reworked back into the proper
shape, and then re-installed.

It has been working fine ever since.

Thanks, guys. I've posted some photos so I hope you can identify the problem

I hope this will help make it clear. Pay attention to the direction the spring wraps around the shaft.
