Hi !
Just wishing to find out more about this excelophone cabinet gramophone I happen to come across. Been googling but nothing is coming up. Is this a crankophone or legit? What sparked my interest is the brass horn sitting on top of the cabinet gramophone. I thought most of them, the horns are internal.

I think what he meant by stereo was the fact that it seems to have 2 horns (through the front and from above). Some phonographs had 2 horns, but I have never seen one like this before.

So sorry that I’ve misunderstood. I’m a newbie and not familiar with the terms. The seller did describe it as being in the 1920s.

Excelophones are from your part of the world. I have never seen one here in the USA. I found little in my brief search.

If this is something you are interested in buying, have the seller provide a view the backside and behind the front grille.

It is interesting that the E on the horn is in a similar font used on the record label.

PS: Excelophone also made radios. Maybe searching for radios will lead you to more information? Good luck.

It's hard to say without seeing exactly how the external horn is mounted and ties into the sound passage(s), but my gut feeling is that it's a faked up upright gramophone.
We did have an imported Excelophone record label here in Australia so it doesn't surprise me to see an Excelophone branded machine (thought I've never seen one before during 40 yrs of collecting).
A machine with both an internal and external horn is highly unusual, especially since the upright machine was probably either fully imported like the discs, or used components from someone like Thorens with a cabinet made here in Oz.
It'd be pretty unlikely if the running gear was bought from Thorens or Paillard etc, for them to buy the other parts needed for the external horn from someone else, and to my knowledge no such parts were offered by any of the more common component suppliers.

Thank you James for the info and links. Yes I’ve also noticed that about the E on the horn as a similar font to the label and was thus intrigued. It does look like a legit horn for its brand. I’ve also seen the tabletop mode of the excelophone on the fb link and was trying to see if I could locate other models with a horn but nothing has come up. I shall go to see this gramophone during the week later and check it out.

Thank you. I’m only just starting my collection and so is really new to it all. Im wary of crapophones now since I’ve been bit by the crapophone bug starting out. So now hoping to ask questions and learn about it before jumping in. Thank you for your help. I shall go and check out this machine and report back with pictures.
