Pretty close resemblance to a Credenza- and it even has a turntable light- but the horn is most definitely NOT exponential.

Many thanks for pointing that out. I always enjoy seeing these Ortho-knock-offs.

You'd think, though, for the trouble they took to copy the "big look" of Orthophonic & (large) Viva Tonal cabinets, they might have taken a little more care to design an exponential type horn that would perform as efficiently as possible. Still, you never know. Some of these large boxy horns do surprisingly well.

You're right- the makers went to a lot of trouble with this case- it's probably not up to Victor standards but does look quite elaborate. I wish I could get a look at it.

Ok. I recently figured out how to do this.

1. From the ad click on the small image you want to see, then click on "enlarge"

2. Once the big image appears, right click.

3. At the bottom of the pop-up, select "view info."

4. Select "media" at the top of the window.

5. The selected image appears in a window. Select "save as," and save it.

6. Close the window.

7. Go back to the main ad window.

8. Select the next small image and click "enlarge."

9. Repeat the process.

10. If you try to advance to the next image while in enlarge mode you don't get the "view info" option, and it won't work.

11. I use Firefox. I don't know if it behaves differently with IE.

Were Victor cabinets not mass produced on a production line, with machined joints and decoration that were glued, dowelled, screwed & nailed together like 99% of other phonograph cabinets produced throughout the world?

Yes, but there are differences in quality of cabinetry and joinery. Take the lid for example- the Mastercraft lid is a large flat piece and something like that is more prone to warp and twist that the Victor Credenza lid which has added mouldings. The decoration on the Mastercraft appears to be stamped- Victor trim was carved.

I just realized that this machine is only about 50 miles from me. Too bad it's not something I would even consider buying.

Ok...I thought the lid of this Mastercraft looked considerably more substancial than a Credenza lid, which appears to be a thin sheet of ply tacked to a frame of moulding.
I guess not.
