Just wondering if this seems like a fair deal for this Brunswick, especially when I factor in about 60 bucks for gasoline. Opinions?

*Edit* I should note that I know little to nothing about Brunswick machines... but I know some of you others out there do.

**UPDATE** 9/24/10 - JUST WANTED TO post pictures of my Brunswick now that I finished my conservation work on it. I have a brass Ultona tonearm and reproducer mounted on it now so I can enjoy it, but Walt Sommers is hoping to rebuild/restore the original tonearm and reproducers that came with the machine. Once he finishes his work on them, I will take additional pictures once it is completely back together in its original glory.

Anyway, here are the pics of my $50.00 machine.

From the looks of the photos, it is difficult to tell for sure, but that tone arm and sound box does not look like a Brunswick, even though the decal on the lid does indicate that it is a Brunswick product. I would ask more questions and perhaps look at it before making any decisions.

That looks like a Pathé soundbox it's got on it. For only playing (Pathé) vertical cut records.

Go for it. It's possible that it has the wrong arm on it, though some early Brunswicks didn't have the "Ultona" arm. Otherwise it looks like (far as I can see) an above average case with carving and well worth the money. If the arm isn't correct Ultona arms turn up on Ebay pretty often.

I don't know how the seller expects anyone to make a decision based on those pics. The tonearm does look wrong but if the machine is clean enough, it could be worth going after.

Regarding the $60 for gasoline, go for it. It might be Raspberry days or something like that now and you you could see a parade in Hopkins to boot. Stop by Duffs barber shop and say hello to my friend Brian. Have lunch at the Gold Nugget bar and grill.

Regardng the Gold Nugget I'd suggest the Swiss Burger on rye, onion rings and a cold Pigs Eye or Leinenkugel. (I assume you've heard of Leinenkugel). My mouth is watering now but I'm ~ 4800 miles away.

Guys / Gals:

This is an early (EARLY!) Brunswick machine. It does have the correct arm for that machine and if you look closely enough, the lateral reproducer is laying to the lower right of the turntable. These early Brunswicks had to separate reproducers for lateral and vertical discs. Even if you needed a lateral reproducer for this, they're on eBay all the time for $20-ish.

I'd certainly be after it if it were near me, even though I'm out of room, I love these early Brunswicks!

Oh, you are making me hungry!! However, celiac disease doesn't allow for any wheat, rye or barley based products... so there goes the beer, the rye bread (or any bread), and worst of all the onions rings!
