Is this a homemade case with an Edison decal? I am just curious as the mandrel looks like it may be brass although it's tough to see from the picture. Just thought I would see what others would think about it.

I don't think I have seen anything like this. I'm not sure about the cabinet, and the motor looks intriguing. It looks like there is a motor mount hole for a screw in the second picture. So I don't think the cabinet is correct. Any input?

Looks like a European mech.

I looks like an Excelsior, but dont know what model. Having 2/4 min gearing, and the motor beneath the bedplate (as opposed to their more common Type Q set-up) would make it one of their higher end machines. Not sure about the cabinet, but the bottom moulding is the same as used on lesser machines, as is the loop for securing the lid, so it may well be correct.

Yep, definately the works are Excelsior.

Shane, if the motor and works are Excelsior do you know why the cabinet says Edison?
Was this a US incantation sold under Edison? If this thing is all original, it seems
a heck of a deal. Of course I would wonder about the condition of the diamond and
reproducer also. Finding a replacement for something that rare could be difficult at best.

Not an Edison product. I think someone refinished the cabinet and slapped on a reproduction Edison decal- actually I think the whole cabinet might be new. The top works look rough and the original case might have fallen apart.

Well, in a way that's good news because although I want an external horn machine
I really should wait until my cash reserves are back again. I would prefer
to have all original works and cabinet if possible.

I asked the seller some details but it was Sold. Did anyone on the board
buy it by chance?
