Hi all,

I just picked up these 2 fibre needle trimmers. I have seen the Davey EMG one before. I haven't seen the Edison one which I guess would be for the Edison Needle Cuts which were only made for a short time. Is this correct?

The EMG cutter turns up regularly in the UK, but the Edison must be rare. Given that the Edison Needle records were only produced for a matter of months, I am surprised that they should have marketed a cutter of their own at all. Does anyone know whether they make it themselves, or did they buy it in as they did with their P-1 and P-2 portable gramophones.

The odd part is that the Edison soundbox has a round hole, it does not fit a bamboo needle, see below.

I seem to recall seeing one of these Edison cutters in its original box being advertised for sale many years ago. I think (?) it may have been on the Japanese site with phonographs and accessories for sale, and if I remember correctly the box stated it was made in Japan, and wasn't actually made by the American Thomas Edison company but just used the Edison name, possibly after the Edison phono division had closed.
I remember copying a picture of the box and cutter but that computer is long gone. When I get time I'll look through my old computer discs and see if I was lucky enough to save the pictures.

Well, there were other lateral reproducers used by Edison, as in the radio-phono combos: perhaps one of those had a triangular hole...?
