I remember when you couldn't touch this model for less than a couple grand:

I am glad prices are coming down a little. This machine is less common than the Victor I, II, and III models, I think.

These machines play acoustic records well, but I enjoy playing Orthophonic Victor records on an Orthophonic Victrola.

I feel the same about the Orthophonic Victrolas. When I bought my first Credenza and started looking for the scroll records...I suddenly lost interest in the earlier machines.

I have to admit, my Vic V more or less just serves as a static display now. Mostly, I play my 4-40, since I'm more interested in Orthophonic era records.

Still, I can't get over the fact that the last time I saw a Victor Monarch Special for sale in my area, the seller wanted $2,800 for it with a brass bell horn. For 3,750 he was willing to throw in an oak horn. -- http://www.collectorsworldwest.com/lookup.php?id=55

And here I was hoping to sell my early MS (with tone arm, but no horn) for a decent price. The turntable shaft seems to be slightly bent. What can I do about that ???

The market is great for finding good deals. Its also really tough to
sell for decent prices. I have several machines on the local market now at reasonable
prices and very few inquires. Most of the other sellers have machines that are
not even working or missing parts, etc. for prices equal to or higher than mine.
I need to at least break even on mine otherwise I will just mothball them until
the market recovers. Good thing I am building a storage shed, I will probably need
it!

The CL listing has been deleted. Did a TMF member buy it?

I know the seller and replied to the craigslist ad but did not receive a reply. In fact I sold him that machine for quite a bit more than $1200 and the photo is the one I sent him. Jerry
