Every collector should have an original copy of Edison's "The Phonograph." It never caught on like Victor's "His Master's Voice" but it was a good attempt. What do you have for trade? I'd also be agreeable to an offer. I am happy to offer free delivery to Union or the APS Expo.

Thanks, Jerry Blais

I've seen two versions of this scene. The early example shows the phonograph with a 14" black & brass horn while later versions show a small black Edison morning glory style horn. I've seen the morning glory horn on post card of the scene with the old couple. Has anyone seen the more modern horn on a large print?

There are rumors that the Edison Company was planning a third horn version. I believe they were going to use a Gourd-A-Horn.

"It never caught on like Victor's "His Master's Voice"..."

That's because people thought Nipper was cuter than an old toothless woman... even though a deaf old guy thought it was a great idea.

Jerry

Nice little display piece even though the machine was damaged after the artist sketched out this scene.

For trade I have a bin of blue amberol cylinders. Some with boxes some without.
If you are interested let me know how many you would like for trade. I will have a large selection available in July when you travel this far north if the virus scare is done by then.

I had the great fortune to be at the Edison - Ford Winter Estate Museum in Ft. Myers, FL the first week of March when Jeremy Fogg, art conservator and owner of Anthony Moore Painting Conservation in York, Maine, unveiled the original of "The Phonograph" after months of restoration.

While not on display yet, I am sure the website for the Museum foundation will feature the image at some time.

The museum has a fine display of Edison phonographs including a "concert horn" to be mounted for large public demonstrations of Edison machines. It resembles a tuba, only larger!

"What do you have for trade?"

I guess the first thing needed to answer that question is: "What do you value it at?"
