This link has cleared up many things that I formerly did not understand. Perhaps this is true for you as well. Well, go to 4:17 and you will learn how records were cut and played back in a simpler time. No digital recordings here!

Yabba Dabba Doo!
I just noticed this: if you look when Betty's voice is recorded, the disk turns counterclockwise. When the recording is played back, it turns clockwise. The devil's in the details.
interesting to compare this Betty Boop cartoon with Disney's "When the Cat's Away." There's an improvised phonograph that plays a warped record that also uses a mouse's tail as a needle. Go to 5:10.

For those Forum members who appreciate player pianos, there's something cheesy in this cartoon for them as well.
We have a thread for phonographs in the movies. We could have one for cartoons. I can think of at least four cartoons, these two plus two more Betty Boop cartoons. And now the Flintstones. That's five. There must be others.
