I stumbled across this you tube video promoting a box set of early Decca mono hi-fi recordings. There are two pieces of music that I was hoping to identify if possible to see if I could find an earlier version of them on 78's. The first runs from 0.36 to 0.43 and the second from 0.50 to 1.00.

Can anyone help?

first one Prokofiev "Troika" ('Lieutenant Kije')

The first is indeed the troika movement from Prokofiev's Lt. Kije Suite.

I didn't recognize the second, but according to my phone's SoundHound application it's from the second movement of Bruckner's Symphony no. 3 in d performed by the Vienna Phil. Or. under Hans Knappertsbusch.

For the Lt. Kije music, on 78s what you'll want is Victor set 459, featuring the Boston SO under Serge Koussevitzky. For the Bruckner on 78s you're probably out of luck; the main volume of WERM lists only one excerpt, the scherzo (3d movement), from Symphony no. 3. Bruckner's fourth did get at least one complete recording, by the Saxon State Or. under Karl Bohm (issued in the United States as Victor set 331).

[edit] Not on 78s, but maybe the next best thing: Just at the end of the 78 era, Remington, the granddaddy of all budget LP labels, issued a Bruckner 3d on R199-138 (12" mono LP) in a performance by the Salzburg Mozarteum Or. under Zoltan Fekete, recorded in 1950 if you believe this discography https://www.abruckner.com/discography/s ... o3indmino/ This record may not be on 78s, but if it's like most Remingtons of my acquaintance it will have just as much surface noise.

Although you didn't ask about these, here are a few more that I recognize:

0.0-0.08 is from Stravinsky's Petrushka ballet music;

0.26-0.35, Brahms' Violin Concerto;

1.00-1.10, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet music.
