Any fishermen out there who can explain this to me?

While I was lurking around on CL, I saw this listed under Victrolas (there were actually four or five listed). While I do not fish, I think I understand the concept behind it.

What I am curious about is whether they were manufactured items, or homemade, and whether they actually used Victrola parts?

Any fishing experts out there??

Last one of these I was had a wooden case and was pretty neat. The fishing line is fed out from the spool and the tension on the phonograph spring along with the speed of the boat control how much line is fed out. That in turns controls depth of the troll. If the boat slows down the spring retrieves the line. My understanding is that they were used when fishing on the Hudson river. Best to you from Montana.

Thanks for your reply. :rose:

Interesting concept... Looking at what appears to be some older looking hardware, I wonder if people just found a resourceful way of putting to use old phonograph parts, or the parts were manufactured specific for this purpose?

I believe those are phono parts from the Edisonic Beethovens and VV-XX's that were magically transformed into likker cabinets...
